Minors must be completed simultaneously with a major degree program. A minor may not be completed by itself, independent of a major program. This means you cannot earn a minor after you have already earned your bachelor's degree(s). You need at least one active major in order to pursue a minor.

A list of majors is available in the UCF Undergraduate Catalog. Minors and undergraduate certificates are a complement to a bachelor's degree. Minors require a minimum of 18 credit hours. Certificates require a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Some schools require students to get department approval before enrolling in both majors. Students must speak with their academic advisors to ensure they can major in both of their desired concentrations. They may also need to provide an additional statement of purpose or roadmap to declare their second major.

7-Year Rule

Courses are only counted for 7 years toward completion of your degree program.

Some students might choose to add a minor (or two) in a complementary subject related to their major, or they might add a minor in a completely different field to expand their potential career paths.

Students earning a double major must use the same Catalog year for both majors. When you graduate, you will receive one diploma, which both majors indicated on it. For a double degree a student may earn 2 degrees (and diplomas) by completing the requirements for both majors and earning a minimum of 150 credit hours.

However, if you're interested in multiple majors in the same college, for example English and Chemistry, both offered in UVA's College of Arts and Sciences, then you can list multiple majors you might be interested in studying on your application. You could even potentially double major in both.

Students in good academic standing (2.0 cumulative and current GPA) who have completed all of the preparation for both majors and at least 2 upper division courses for each major may apply to declare a double (or triple) major.

You'll be happy to know that yes, you can apply to different colleges with different majors. Some colleges even allow you to apply as 'undeclared' or 'exploratory' if you're still not sure about the specific major you want to pursue.
